Add-a-Stage contains a full extra tube gain stage, separate filtering node with filter and a built-in switching relay. All in a clean and compact PCB design. About the size of an average LND 150 fx loop, it can be utilized in numerous types of amps.
Easily turn your Marshall JMP or JCM 800 into a 4 stage beast with an Add-a-Stage. Put one in front of a stock Super lead for a Jose-type mod. Or use it in any other amp where it would benefit from an extra tube stage.
Designed to be installed at the front end of the preamp section OR in-between your current gain stages. It's your choice!
The extra gain stage can be engaged or removed with the flick of a switch. Simple hookup to the internal relay. Input wiring is also intuitive and simple for effortless connection.
12vdc supply is required to power the on-board relay.
Add-a-stage can use AC or DC tube heaters. It is fully configurable by the user, and can be ordered populated and ready-to-install or as a bare PCB.

Plug-in type modules are great. And easy to use with no electrical/ technical knowledge needed. However, they offer limited flexibility in making your amp sound exactly how you want.
1) Add-a-Stage is FULLY configurable. Meaning you can change the circuit component values to get exactly the tone, response and dynamics for your amp. No compromises with Add-a-Stage. Just full flexibility to tailor your tone.
2) You can choose where to place Add-a-Stage in your signal path. Plug in modules can only go in one position. Add-a-Stage can be placed anywhere. It can go before the entire preamp, or in-between gain stages.
3) Add-a-Stage is switchable. You can add or remove the extra gain at the flick of a switch or press of a foot switch button. This is unbeatable for live use, where you can boost the gain for solos etc...on demand.
Most any type of switch will work, including toggle switches, push/pull switched pots and foot switch jacks. The Add-a-Stage relay is activated by adding or removing ground to the switch (SW) pad on the board, making wiring streamlined and effortless.
Using a push/pull pot eliminates the need to drill a hole for an added toggle switch etc...and keeps the front panel clean.
Placing the Add-a-Stage in front of the first preamp tube acts as a sort of "boost." This method has a good amount of low end response and a bit "woolier" tone. But not loose or flubby, by any means.
Inserting Add-a-Stage between stages, such as before V2A in a Marshall, results in a tighter, leaner and more aggressive tone. The gain feels just a little higher and the attack is sharper.
Both positions are great. And it's easy to configure Add-a-Stage either way. Experimenting with both methods it's easy and convenient.
PCB mounted tube socket, with additional standoffs create a strong, reliable base for an extra tube stage.
Measuring approximately 82 x 44mm, Add-a-Stage takes up minimal space and installs super clean.
Using turret boards and tag strips to create an extra gain stage circuit creates a less than optimal result.
Add-a-Stage PCB features a full ground plane for low noise and minimal cross-talk with other circuit components.
